Civil Air Patrol Professional Development
Providing leadership, management, and ethics guidance
to the senior members of the Civil Air Patrol.
Level 1 Fundations
Welcome to Civil Air Patrol! You have just joined one of the most prestigious volunteer organizations in the country, offering nearly limitless possibilities and opportunities.
The Level I Foundations program is a CAP orientation program and the first of CAP's Five professional development program levels. During this training you will be exposed to the history of our organization and familiarize yourself with the general policies and procedures. To complete this level, complete the requirements (1-5) outlined below (in accordance with CAPR 50-17). Should you have any questions about what you are leaning in level one please do not hesitate to talk to your mentor, unit Professional Development Officer, or unit Commander.
Note: Cadet Protection Program Training (CPPT) in step 3 is for CAP members ofages 17 & older only.
Level 2 Technical Training
To complete this level and earn the Benjamin O. Davis, Jr. Award, you will:
1. Become technician rated in a specialty track (earning the leadership ribbon) nearly limitless possibilities and opportunities. To view specialty track guides click here .
2. Complete the "CAP Officer Basic Course.
3. You will also complete the Squadron Leadership School (SLS) which provides CAP's adult members with a basic understanding of CAP operations at the squadron level and how those operations affect CAP's national missions. Additionally, members learn more about CAP customs, core values, and communications. Case studies, discussion, and group assignments are integral facets of the SLS.
